About Doepke Toys
Doepke Construction Toys
Version #3  -  1948-49
This is probably the most common version of the Doepke Wooldridge Dump Truck. Production
numbers were rapidly increasing during 1948 and 1949 and thousands of these were made.
These large cone-shaped
hub caps first appeared on
Doepke toys in 1948.
The rear cross  member
remained unchanged.
This spring steel latch is not
original. Original latches
were painted body color.
1948 and 1949 versions used
slots instead of rivets to hold
the latch to the body.
The front step on third
version toys is made from
square stock metal - a
change from 1946-47.
The steering also changed,
using two L-shaped rods
instead of one T-shaped rod.
Each box was marked with its
contents and Model Number.
Here we see the date stamp
of 1948 on this box made by
the Fairfield Company.
OOOPS!
This first version 1946 Wooldridge Dump
Truck came off the assembly line with two
errors. Can you spot them?

The left rear tire is mounted backwards as is
the right front tire.

General practice required that the "V-tread"
on powered axles should point forward. On
non-powered axles the "V-tread" should point
towards the back.

Doepke quality control was usually very high
and it is unusual to see mistakes like this.
Could be a "Monday morning" toy.
