#1100 - Elgin Street Sweeper  -  1950-52
Early Toys - Page 5
The Nylint #1100 Elgin Street Sweeper was a magnificent toy. Although it didn't actually pick up dirt it
sure looked as if it was. Authentic design, great lithography and realistic action made it a big hit in 1950.
Both brushes worked off rubber belt connections but the horizontal broom brush drive belt is almost
always missing from these toys. A simple o-ring will work as a replacement.
All around excellence in lithographic details added to the play value. Note the folded hose in front of
the driver and the operational controls to his left. Very neat!
Coming or going the #1100 Elgin Street Sweeper presented a no-nonsense profile. Four years later
Nylint would re-introduce the Elgin Sweeper as an up-dated model (#2300). See Construction Toys.
