Gas Station Toys - Cities Service

Marx Fix-All Cities Service Wrecker
|
In the late 1950's Marx produced a line of toys that were capable of being assembled and
disassembled by their young owners. These were called "Fix-All" toys. The three Cities Service trucks
shown here are examples of "Fix-All" toys. They are identical in construction except for the variation in
colors. It is not known if these trucks were ever used as premiums to promote sales at Cities Service
gasoline stations.
A nice compliment of tools and accessories came with each wrecker. The Marx catalog of the period
advertised these toys as being made up on "over 30 pieces." It sold for $1.49.
Everything stowed away nicely in its appointed place. The engine oil bath air cleaner (below) was also
a separate piece and was usually the first item lost.
This version retains the white cab/green bed configuration used on the truck above, but features a
matching white hood and spiffy white tires!
This third variation completely reverses the color scheme of the first truck shown above. Its white horn
is missing. These trucks were also made in other colors without the Cities Service brand name. And,
in recent years, this truck was reproduced in a variety of other colors.
