Introduced in 1963, the Operating Tow Truck was listed as #926. In 1964 it became #1926. In 1967 it
was offered in two color schemes (the other was Red and White) as #1853. A great wrecker truck!
The winch system was one of the best in the
contemporary toy industry. Great detail.
Even the boom looked like it could have been
scaled down from a real life truck. Well done!
The two examples shown above represent the #1860 catalog offering for 1967. Both color schemes
were available that year. The toy was listed as #927 in 1963, and then as #1927 in 1964.
The trailer tongue was susceptible to breakage
where it rested on the truck's tow hook.
Old pick-up beds converted to utility trailers
were a common sight in those good ol' days.
This mint boxed example illustrates Hubley's "carry home" packaging. It didn't really work all that well -
these were heavy toys and the handles often bent. But, many were sold and found their way under the
Christmas tree or in a birthday gift box. A very nice truck that stayed on the market for many years.
